The grading of walks is also subjective. The leader reserves the right to amend walks in the light of further information. If in any doubt as to the suitability of the walk, please contact the leader a few days beforehand.
Participants should remember that there is an element of risk on any walk, and every care should be taken at all times. Participation in walks is at your own risk.

For Health and Safety Reasons leaders have the right to cancel a walk if three or less people turn up at the meeting point and the leader has not received notification from anyone else that they will be going  directly to the start or, if appropriate, Junction 29.

Car Sharing

The car parks for car sharing are now the Public Car Park adjacent to Holywell Community Hospital and Northop Village Car Park.  Junction 29 is also available as indicated in the programme. If you have difficulty or it is inconvenient to get to one of these meeting points please contact the Leader of the Walk a couple of days before.


AUTUMN 2011 PROGRAMME

Sunday 2nd October 2011      Glyn Ceiriog and Vivod Mountain        10 00

Starting from the car park in Glyn Ceiriog this varied walk goes through woodland, passing the site of old disused slate quarries. It then climbs onto heather moorland on the shoulder of Vivod mountain with extensive views of the surrounding hills and the Cheshire plain. The route then swings around Y Foel onto lanes down to Finger farm to pick up the Llwybr Ceiriog trail before heading east to return to Glyn Ceiriog.

The walk starts from the Cattle Grid on the Licswm Road from Rhesycae. We walk across Halkyn Mountain to the Windmill and then follow the ridge towards Brynford. We then cross over to Calcoed Hall and pick up a path that leads to the village of Ysceifiog. This is the old route between Holywell and Ysceifiog. Stone Stiles on this route have recently been restored. From Ysceifiog we walk to Ffynnon y Cyf and via the Graig to return to the start.

This walk is timed to try and catch a High Spring Tide on the River  Dee. The state of the Bore however depends upon various other  factors. Park at the layby at Golftyn Lane Kelsterton to catch the 11A bus to Saltney. We then walk down to the river and follow it to Connah’s Quay.  With the exception of climbing up and over a couple of railway bridges this is a level walk. Note the bus leaves Holywell at 09:30 and the leader hopes to be on it!

This walk takes in parts of the Offa’s Dyke and the North Wales Paths. Park in the Offas’s Dyke Path Car Park at the start of Gwaenysgor Hill in Prestatyn and walk along the Offa’s Dyke  path to Rhuallt. Return along the road for 250m then along the forest track to Cwm on to Dyserth and back to Prestatyn along the North Wales Path. This follows a disused railway track and we leave this to go through Bishops Wood back to the start. There are some short but steep ascents and descents on the ODP.

Starting from the car park behind Joe Brown’s shop in Capel Curig this walk takes us onto a quiet section of the Carneddau, which has fine views over to the main ridge of the Carneddau.
From Capel Curig we follow the A5 for a short distance to pick up a path which takes us to the southern end of Llyn Cowlyd, to allow us to  climb to the cliffs of Creigiau Gleision and follow the ridge to the northern end of the lake. From here we drop down to the dam before ascending Pen Llithrig y Wrach to complete a circuit of  the lake and return to Capel Curig.

This walk follows the Pilgrims Way from Llansannan via Gwytherin to Llangernyw. Initially the route is along up the valley of the Afon Aled. It then crosses Common Land before dropping down to Gwytherin. From here we climb out on to a low ridge at Ffrith Uchaf before dropping down to the hamlet of Pandy Tudur. We then cross the A 548 to a a very pleasant footpath  which takes us alongside a stream past Hafodunos to Llangernyw. The return to Llansannan is by bus.

This walk combines parts of two of Anne’s Walks. Starting from the Centre of Caerwys we follow a footpath past Caerwys Hall towards Marian Ffrith. We then cross over through Coed y Garreg to join Anne’s walk at Hendy to bring us back to the start.

Gwilym's Berwyn Walk

To the north-east of the Arans, and outside the National Park lie the Berwyns, a short ridge of scalloped peaks which are the culmination of a large area of moorland.
This route explores two high peaks, starting from Wales’ highest and most picturesque waterfall.

Nantlle Ridge Circular

We meet at Holywell Community Hospital then drive to the car park at Talysarn. A taxi will take us from the Car Park at Talysarn to Rhyd Ddu and we walk over the ridge to Talysarn The taxi will cost for 1-4 people £5 flat flare, 5 or more people just £1 each.
The walk goes over one of the best ridge walks in the British Isles.  It involves three steep climbs and some scrambling.  A good head for heights is required, two of the descents are steep and can be slippery.

A walk on the wild side in west Shropshire - in a landscape reminiscent of the Dartmoor tors. As well as the summit of Stiperstones (1758 ft) we'll take in such gems as the Devil's Chair, Manstone Rock and Cranberry Rock on the three mile main ridge - as well as Stiperstones village and Snailbeach in search of well earned refreshment.
