The grading of walks is also subjective. The leader reserves the right to amend walks in the light of further information. Car Sharing A55, Caerwys Turn Off:

This meeting place is no longer available, it has been ‘sealed off’. For walks going towards ‘the coast/Conwy/Snowdonia etc’ meet at Junction 29. This is after the Traveller’s Inn, at the top of the old Rhuallt Hill. There is plenty of parking space if you turn left into a quiet lane, it is also easy to return to afterwards. Please contact walk leader for further details.

Five Days walking along the North Wales Path

Monday 19th July 09 45

Day 1 - Talybont to Aber

We catch the 09 45 bus from Abergwyngregin to Talybont. From here follow the North Wales Path (NWP) via Coch William towards Bethesda. We then turn North East and head for Fedw and follow tracks and paths to go around the side of the mountains to the falls at Aber. We continue down valley back to the village of Abergwyngregin.

Day 2 - Aber to Penmaenmawr

We catch the 09 35 bus from Penmaenmawr to Aber. We walk up the valley along the Roman Road and follow this above Llanfairfechan. We cross Llanfairfechan Common below Moelfre to the Stone Circles. From here we return to Penmaenmawr.

Wednesday 21st July 09 50

Day 3 - Penmaenmawr to Conwy

We catch the 09 50 bus from the entrance to Bodlondeb (outside the Town Walls) to Penmaenmawr. We rejoin the NWP via the Jubilee Path. We then follow it via Sychnant Pass over Conwy Mountain and down to the Quay at Conwy.

Day 4 - Old Colwyn to Kinmel Bay

We catch the 09 35 Bus at Foryd Road Kinmel Bay. After missing out the boring bit around Deganwy and Llandudno we pick up the path at the centre of Old Colwyn We then follow the NWP around Llysfaen where we again leave it to go over the hillside to Abergele and Pensarn. We then follow the NWP alongside the beach back to Kinmel Bay.

Friday 23rd July 10 00

Day 5 - Rhyl to Prestatyn

We catch Bus 18 from Prestatyn Bus Station to Rhyl Bus Station and walk to the Marine Lake. We then follow the NWP alongside the River Clwyd to Rhuddlan and then to Dyserth. At Dyserth we leave the NWP and go past Dyserth Castle to Graig Fawr and pick up the Offa’s Dyke Path for the final spectacular descent to Prestatyn.

Llyn Sarnau

Four forest lakes are the highlights of this walk, which starts from a car park at Llyn Sarnau high above the Conwy Valley. The lake was built in the 19th Century to provide water for lead mines. Other lakes are Llyn Glangors, Llyn Bodgynydd and Llyn Geirionydd.

Capel Garmon and Conwy Valley

The walk starts from the centre of the village and takes us via the Burial Site to the forest above Betws y Coed. We then follow forest tracks and paths northwards along the side of the hill. The walk continues past Tan y Foel to circle Moel Trefiw and return to the start.

Summertrees

Two Circular Walks from this café on the Sandstone Trail. The morning walk will visit the Delamere Forest and the afternoon walk will be based around Willington. Both walks will be about 4 miles each.

Arenig Fawr

Starting from the informal car park at the Quarry south of Llyn Celyn this walk takes us first along a lane before picking up the track to Llyn Arenig Fawr. From here we climb to Castell and then across the ridge to the summit of Arenig Fawr. The return is via Amnodd Bwll and Cefn Glas to pick up an old Tramway which is followed back to the start.

An evening walk from the village of Northop. We follow footpaths down towards Oakenholt and return via Flint Mountain and Celyn College.

Clwydian 3 Peaks

We start from the viewpoint car park, signposted as you approach Cilcain. The terrain is initially relatively easy as we follow tracks and footpaths to the crossing south of Moel y Parc. Here, we join the Offa's Dyke Path to traverse Penycloddiau. A brief diversion then takes us to the top of Moel Arthur before rejoining the ODP and on to Moel Fammau. From the summit, we return directly to Cilcain.

Bagillt and the Coast

The walk starts from Holywell Leisure Centre and follows the path through the Greenfield Valley to Greenfield Dock. We then follow the Coast Path to Bagillt Dock. We return to Holywell via a Pennant Walk and the Old Bagillt Road.

Moel Gyw and Moel y Plas

The walk starts at the car park in the disused quarry north of Llanarmon on the B5430. From here the route climbs slowly through forest and then on to open hillside to reach the Offa’s Dyke Path north of Moel Gyw. From here we follow the Offa’s Dyke Path in a southerly direction to Moel y Plas. At which point we commence our return to the start via Llanarmon.

Dee Way – A Rail Ramble

We take the train from Flint Station into Chester and walk back along the newly created Dee Way back to Flint. The walk is flat and on a good surface. Members can leave the walk at any point and catch a bus back to Flint.

Starting from the Royal Oak in Hendre this walk will take us to Siamber Wen. We then follow a path towards the village of Cilcain before returning via Cefn and Mwynbwll and a short section of the disused railway line.

Ogwen to Aber

This is a Classic Linear Walk over the Carneddau Ridge. Starting from Glen Dena the route goes up Pen yr Ole Wen and on to the summits of Carnedd Llewelyn and Carnedd Dafydd the 2nd and 3rd highest peak in Wales. The route continues to Foel Fras before descending to Abergwyngregin. This walk involves over 3,000 feet of ascent and over 4,000 feet of descent.

Wat’s Dyke Way and Brit

Starting from the village of Northop this walk follows Wat’s Dyke Way to Moel Gaer at Rhosesmor. We then walk over Halkyn Mountain to the Brit for lunch. The afternoon walk takes us directly to Northop Green.

Llantysilio Mountains

We meet at the Ponderosa Café on the Horseshoe Pass. From here we take a few cars to Pont Carrog where the walk starts. We ascend up the mountain paths to Moel Gamelin and Moel Morfydd with scenic views of the Dee Valley, and continue on to the hospitality of the Ponderosa. Note this walk contains many ups and downs totalling about 1700 feet.

Greenfield and Stokyn

This walk starts from Holywell Leisure Centre and takes us down the Greenfield Valley and to Bryn Celyn. From here we walk to Stokyn Hall and over the Afon Siandwr. We then walk down and cross over the railway line to go on to the banks of the River Dee. Here we pick up the newly upgraded Coast Path to Greenfield Dock. The return to Holywell is via Greenfield Valley where refreshments maybe available.

Moel Eilio and Llyn Colwyd

Starting from the B5106 just before the village of Dolgarrog the route, initially steep, takes us over Moel Eilio towards Llyn Colwyd Reservoir. The return takes us by Coedty Reservoir where we will have a surprise before our return to Dolgarrog.

Holyhead Mountain and Coast Path

Meeting at the Lifeboat Station on Newry Beach Holyhead to walk to the Breakwater Country Park. We follow the Coastal Path to North Stack. From here we climb Holyhead Mountain. We continue to South Stack and Elin’s Tower (an RSPB observation point where we should see Choughs). The return is through the Country Park, Coast Path and Rocky Coast. Parts of this walk are over rough ground with some short but steep ascents.

Around Maeshafn

Starting from the Plymog lay-by just south of Llanferres, we head towards the limestone cliffs of Bryn Alyn before contouring around the quarry and reaching Maeshafn. There is a short climb over Moel Findeg and descent to Gwernymyndd for lunch at The Rainbow. The return in the afternoon is approximately 3.5 miles through similar terrain.

Snowdon Horseshoe

We meet at Llyn Padarn Car Park in order to catch the Sherpa Bus to Pen y Pass. This walk is the Classic Snowdon Horseshoe and includes Crib Goch, the Summit of Snowdon and Llechwedd. We return from Penypass to Llyn Padarn Car Park by bus.

A “good head for heights” is required for Crib Goch.

A total ascent of over 3,000 feet.

Siabod from Dolwyddelan

Starting from the War Memorial at Dolwyddelan this walk approaches the iconic peak of Moel Siabod from the South. Starting off gently through the woods we arrive at Llyn y Foel. From here there is an easy scramble along the South Western Ridge. The reward is the summit of the most viewed mountain in Snowdonia. The return route goes south from the summit to Dolwyddelan Castle and back to the start.

The walk involves a total ascent of about 2,600 feet.

Upper Ceiriog Trail & the Ceiriog Valley

Commencing with a steep ascent along a green lane, the walk leaves the village of Llanarmon D C to explore the hills above the village and the relatively unspoiled Ceiriog Valley. After the initial climb the route descends to Rhyd Caledwynt and then crosses the Afon Teirw to Pandy. We continue along the valley passing Pont y Meibion, home to the 17th century poet Huw Morus (known as Eos Ceiriog – the nightingale of Ceiriog, for his poems supporting Charles 1st), on the return to the start.

We catch the 19A bus from Conwy Station to Rowen. The walk starts by going through the village uphill past the Youth Hostel and on to the summit of Talyfan. Here we pick up the ridge path over the Common to the Sychnant Pass. From here we follow the North Wales Path over Conwy Mountain back to the start.
