NOTES
Car Sharing
The Club operates a Car Sharing scheme. Depending on the location of the walk we use up to three meeting points
Holywell Public Car Park adjacent to Holywell Community Hospital. Post Code CH8 7RZ
Northop Village Car Park In centre of village Post Code CH7 6BQ
Junction 29 A55 on side of Slip Road.
The Club uses a WhatsApp Group to make arrangements and to give further information.
If travelling direct to the start please arrive 10 minutes before the Start Time.
Don’t have a car? Contact the leader at least 3 days before the walk
Equipment and Food For all day walks (except those with pub lunches) bring food and drink. Boots are essential for mountain and strenuous walks.
The leader has the right to refuse to allow members or potential members from taking part if, in his or her opinion, they are inadequately dressed or do not have suitable footwear.

Grading of Walks
Easy Less than 5 miles/8 kms with less than a total of 1,000 ft (300 metres) of ascent
 Moderate 6 to 10 miles and with a total ascent of less than 2,000ft (600 metres) Walks with more than 1,000ft (600 metres) depending on the severity may labelled
Moderate Mountain
Strenuous All walks over 10 miles/16kms. Walks of over 2,000 ft (600 metres) are also graded Strenuous
If in any doubt as to the suitability of a walk please contact the leader beforehand.

Duty of Care and Safety
Leaders and members owe a duty of care to all the other members of the group.
Members participating in walks do so at their own risk.
Members are expected to be appropriately dressed and prepared for the walk. If the leader believes that someone is inadequately dressed or prepared then s/he has the right to refuse to allow the member on the walk.
Members are advised to carry their own personal first aid kit, whistle and where appropriate survival equipment. They should also make the leader aware of any medical condition and any implications that could cause problems during the walk.
The leader can question the fitness of any member wishing to attempt the walk and can decline to accept him/her on the walk.

Leaders
Club walks are led by volunteer members who may or may not have received leader training. They are expected to be appropriately dressed and prepared for the walk which they are leading. They are not however expected to carry any specialised equipment.
Walks leaders may not have had any first aid training. Leaders (and members) are advised to carry a first aid kit but it is not a condition of leading a walk.
For Health and Safety reasons leaders have the right to cancel a walk if three or less people turn up at the meeting point and the leader has not received notification from anyone else that they will be going directly to the start or, if appropriate, Junction 29 or Northop.

Dogs
These are allowed on walks at the discretion of the leader. This is indicated in the walk description. Dogs must be kept on a short lead at all times. All Dog mess must be picked up and disposed of responsibly.

The walk starts from the Memorial Institute car park in Penyffordd. The walk will take us to Drury via a series of footpaths, lanes and roads to a bridge over the A55. The route then continues to the edge of Bilberry wood and then back to Penyffordd. An optional lunch can be had at Jemoleys cafe in Penyffordd  after the walk. The meals will need to be pre ordered and the menu will be circulated via  WhatsApp a week before the walk so members can message me with their meal choices.

Take Moel Famau turn from the Mold to Ruthin Road at Tafarn y Gelyn. Almost immediately keep to the dead end track to the left. Some parking  ( so car share a good idea ) at the end or park on road in the village. Meet up together by the small village cottages. Numerous stiles ( 16 ish !! )  2 short sections on quiet lanes but the rest on good footpaths and fields. About half a kilometre on the Loggerheads path plus a circuit of Frith mountain.  Dogs should be kept on a short lead at all times and all dog mess to be picked up wherever it is

An easy/moderate walk from the Wharf CP in Llangollen. We follow the towpath to Horshoe Falls and Llantysilio church. We then follow the lower slopes of Coed Hyrdd towards Eliseg’s pillar. Crossing the road we meander through the caravan park. Ascending steps we follow footpaths and farm tracks back to the towpath and to the start. Dogs should be kept on a short lead at all times and all dog mess to be picked up wherever it is.

2 Quarries Circular from Rhes y Cae

Take the Lixwm Road from Rhosesmor –At Rhes y Cae parking is on a grassed area on the right side between 2 chapels just past a turn into the village.( reverse instructions coming from Lixwm ) A circular walk on undulating ground  around 2 quarries with great views all around, passing lime kilns on route. Good footpaths and no stiles. Sheep about so -- Dogs should be kept on a short lead at all times and all dog mess to be picked up wherever it is.

Description Penyfordd Circular Walk/Bilberry Woods. Followed by lunch at Daleside Garden Centre. This walk begins and ends at Tinkersdale CP in Hawarden. It is a circular route taking us firstly, through the Hawarden Estate onto Bilberry Woods, then in and around the area of Pen-y-ffordd in Flintshire. We progress through fields and eventually skirt the perimeter of Hawarden Golf Course where we return to our starting point. The footpaths are established, and there are around 9 well maintained styles. There are also two busy roads to cross. It could be muddy in places and there is some rough ground. After we return to the car park, there is an option to have lunch at The Daleside Garden Centre. There will be a coffee stop on route, but an early start time is given with a view to an approx 1pm finish time. This will enable us to have lunch at the Daleside Garden Centre in Hawarden (Postcode: CH5 3HF) The garden centre is 5 minutes away by car and has its own car park. No pre-orders for food will be necessary.

Moel Siabod from Capel Curig

Walk Start Time: 9:45

Description:

The walk starts from across the road from the Car Park to the rear of Joe Brown’s, Capel Curig and is a clockwise circular that takes the walker through forest, fields, alongside the Afon Llugwy before the ascent towards disused quarry workings.

Once we attain the bottom of the mountain we will be leaving well trodden track, but rather take a long, but steady ascent to reach the summit of Moel Siabod (we won’t be ascending Daear Ddu on this occasion).

From the summit we’ll descend down toward Plas y Brenin and then back through the forestry to return to the car park.

Dogs on leads welcome on this walk, but please note that there are several stiles.

Description: The walk starts at disused quarry car park. We take the path along the right hand edge of the quarry to reach the outskirts of Lanerch. We then walk up Bryn Alyn and over to Pant Du. Staying to the right of Burley Hill quarry we enter Maeshafn. Returning through Big Covert woods we rejoin our outward path and return to the cars. Refreshments are available afterwards.

Description :-This is another opportunity to have a post walk lunch at the Chapel tearoom. This 5 mile walk starts from the Chapel tea room car park (£3 ).                                                     The route follows an old railway line, back lanes, track , canal towpaths and across the aqueduct before returning to the car park for an optional lunch in the tearoom.                                                    Your meal choices can be ordered in the cafe at 10am before we set out on the walk.            The lunch will be at 1pm.

Description:  At 2,060 feet this is the highest point in the AONB and one of my favourite walks. Ample free parking in a lay-by on the A5. After a steep, short first leg we have a long, steady pull up the valley side. Great views across the valley. Reaching open moorland it is then a steady ascent to the summit where, weather permitting, 360 degree views await. An enjoyable walk off the hill on good paths to the village of Glyndyfrdwy and then a short walk beside the A5 back to the cars.

Description:- This circular walk starts in the centre of Ruabon. The walk is largely through fields but there is a 100 yard stretch on the A539 where care needs to be taken as there is no pavement but just a grass verge. There are quite a number of landmarks on this route.

Clywedog trail-linear walk

Walk Start Time: 9:40 am in Wrexham bus station-stand 6 to catch the T51 bus.

Description: This walk will start will start in Minera after alighting from the T51 bus. The walk largely follows the course of the Clywedog river. The walk passes through attractive Woodlands and part of Erddig Country Park and finally into Wrexham.

Description: Starting at the CP below Aber Falls we walk up the road. Picking up the N W Path we walk over Blaen y Ddalfa. Then a steady climb on open ground, with wide paths, to the summit of Drum. Making our way down via a fence line we drop into the valley of the Afon  Anafon.  Walking out along this lovely secluded valley, often populated with wild ponies, we then return to the cars.

From Abergwyngregin we catch the bus to Llandygai and then another bus to Bethesda. In Bethesda we pick up the former Priest’s Path which ran from Nant Peris to Abergwyngregin. This is followed out of the town and on to Llanllechid Common. We then cross over to the North Wales Pilgrims Way which is followed until it crosses and rejoins  the Priests Path which is then followed down to Abergwyngregin. Here we will be able  to visit Caffi’r Felin and can sample Aziz Cakes and wonderful coffee

Description:-This walk starts from the car park of Whixhall Marina. A large part of the route is different to previous walks from Whixhall Marina. The route will follow canal towpaths, tracks , back roads and cross part of Whixhall Moss-that is now a nature conservation area that straddles the English /Welsh border. The Moss is one of the few remaining raised bogs in the U.K. There is a cafe at the Marina for refreshments after the walk-(but bring a packed lunch for the walk).
